The earliest wedding showers were given for a bride so that she could start keeping a house. Showers were quite simple and no one spent much money. Gifts should be in good taste as the mother-of-the bride and groom will probably be there and risqué presents would be in bad taste. Grandmothers will more than likely be at the party also so we wouldn’t want to offend.

A perfect shower gift idea is the pantry shower. Attendees bring the soon-to-be married couple non perishable food to fill their pantries. Everyone brings items to create family favorite recipes minus anything that might spoil. Along with the food comes a recipe. Before long, the couple will nearly everything they need to start cooking as a family. These showers should be given close to the wedding date so that none of the food becomes out-of-date. These showers were very popular at the turn of the century and are becoming increasingly popular today.

A great couple’s shower idea is the Bar-B-Que shower. Gift ideas for this type of showers range from the hostess gift of a gas grill to tongues and picnic dishes. This shower is great because the groom actually gets some things he can get excited about and use. Anything outdoor is appropriate for a Bar-B-Que shower. All the couple will need to add is the food.

Wedding shower gift ideas are many and varied. Modern couples still need some of the items turn-of-the century couples needed. As long as there is marriage, there will be a need for great wedding gift ideas.
